Both July 12, 2024 Bally’s press releases mention a planned land-based Bally’s casino in State College, PA. Will GLPI be involved with financing that casino also? Why is that project currently never mentioned in the media anymore? Folks near the Nittany Mall are quick to point out that the Bally’s casino won’t be near the mall. It will be located in a former Macy’s department store that is INSIDE the Nittany Mall. Bally’s was probably just kidding when mentioning “NEAR” in every Bally’s press release for the past two years, right?

I just read about this and was reminded that Bally’s is contractually required to open their permanent Bally’s Chicago by September 2026. Smoke and mirrors. Is the City of Chicago really serious about that? What happens if severe winter weather in early 2026 prevents Bally’s from having their grand opening ceremony in September? What happens in July and August of 2026 when the project is not even close to being completed by September? Would an extension be granted with a wink and a nod or will the unfinished permanent casino just face demolition? Smoke and mirrors.

How much will it cost to keep all those demolition crews working 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, for 5 months or longer – and then to actually build the new casino afterwards? All of that spending is being financed… and the new casino won’t bring in any revenue for Bally’s until all of the demolition and construction is finally finished. I can only imagine how hard Bally’s stock price will crash if they can’t complete the project and the expected revenue from the new casino never materializes at all….

Take a quick look where Bally’s (BALY) stock price has been stuck YTD since January 1st. It now hovers under the $12.00 range nearly every day. Hitting $13.00 and staying above that seems to now be out of the question for them. No wonder Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim wisely offered just $15.00 per share in his takeover bid to take the company private. A more sensible investment in the AI sector would absolutely be a decision to cheer about. Bally’s? Not so much!

What about ongoing investigations that are not mentioned above? In early December, reporters at PlayIllinois.com revealed that Bally’s Chicago is drawing the eye of both local and federal investigators. That was according to Crain’s Chicago Business, which reports that authorities are looking at the bidding process that resulted in Bally’s winning the opportunity to construct a casino in Chicago. The probes were spurred by complaints from unsuccessful bidders, the report said. No one close to the investigations has reportedly commented on the probes. However, Chicago Alderman Brian Hopkins confirmed the federal investigation, and claimed the entire Bally’s Chicago project could be at risk of coming to a complete halt. The federal investigation is reportedly being spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. City of Chicago Inspector General Deborah Witzburg is reportedly running the city’s investigation. Early December was over six months ago. In the interest of transparency, please provide us with an update. Are those two investigations still underway?
