The Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers are going to meet in the World Series later this month, that is of course assuming Las Vegas oddsmakers have their lines correctly in order.
The Division Series of the MLB Playoffs begins today, with the four remaining teams in the American League taking the honors. The Boston Red travel to Texas to play the Houston Astros, the latter a team coming off their first 100-win season since 1998. The first pitch was thrown earlier today at 4:09 pm ET.
The ‘Stros are the favorites at Nevada sportsbooks to win the series, as well as at online sites. Bovada lists Houston at -170 to Boston at +150. Implied odds give the Astros a 63 percent chance of moving onto the American League Championship Series.
The evening game features the hottest team in baseball, the Indians, which have won 34 of their last 38 games. The Tribe sends Trevor Bauer to the mound for game 1, who will be looking for postseason revenge after being the losing pitcher in two games of last year’s World Series defeat to the Chicago Cubs.
Cleveland will welcome the New York Yankees to Progressive Field, the pinstripes moving on after their Wild Card win over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday night. They will start Sonny Gray, who’s struggled at times since being acquired from the Oakland Athletics in late July.
Bovada has Cleveland the heavy favorite at -200, or a 67 percent chance, to win the series. The Yanks open at +160. A winning wager on the Indians nets the bettor just $50.
Eight Challengers, Two Favorites
Along with the Indians, the Dodgers are expected to glide through the National League and reach the World Series. Bovada has the Dodgers at +145 to win the NL pennant, but they’ll first need to get past the Arizona Diamondbacks, which won the Wild Card game over the Colorado Rockies last night.
Since the Diamondbacks still not haven’t announced as of this writing who will start the first game on Friday in Los Angeles, many oddsmakers are holding off on publishing series lines. Regardless, the Dodgers will be heavily favored.
In the other NL series, the defending champion Cubs seemingly have no pressure on their shoulders entering the Division Series in Washington. But they’ll have their work cut out for them, as the Nationals are favored -130 to the Cubbies at +110.
World Series Odds
The MLB Playoffs are about as unpredictable of a postseason as pro sports come. But as of now, it’s the Dodgers and Indians’ to lose.
The Westgate SuperBook gives Los Angeles odds of 5-2 to win the World Series, or a 28.57 percent chance. A $100 wager that comes true on a Dodgers championship returns bettors $250. The Indians are next at 13-5 (23.5 percent), with a $100 bet netting $325.
Aside from Los Angeles and Cleveland, the next shortest odds are on the Astros (5-1), which equates to about a 16.7 percent chance. The rest of the best: Nationals (7-1), Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Diamondbacks (10-1).
