The Women’s World Cup final may be the biggest sporting event in the world on Sunday, but soccer fans will have plenty more to watch after a world champion is crowned, as both the Copa America and Gold Cup finals have also been scheduled for July 7.
Brazil (-1100) is a heavy favorite to put away Peru (+600) in the Copa America final, according to FanDuel Sportsbook in New Jersey, while Mexico (-160) has a slight edge over the United States (+110) in the Gold Cup title match.
Brazil Seeks First Copa America Title in 12 Years
Brazil has been the team to beat since the start of the 2019 Copa America. While South America’s traditional powerhouse hasn’t won the tournament since 2007, they are hosting this year’s edition, and that made them a prohibitive favorite even before the first goal was scored.
That hasn’t changed since, and Peru is being given very little chance of upsetting the hosts on Sunday. It doesn’t help that the two sides have already met up once in the group stages, a match that ended in a resounding 5-0 win for the Brazilians.
Incredibly, Brazil has yet to concede a single goal in the tournament, and they hope to close out their Copa America clean sheet against Peru.
Ending the competition without conceding a goal is one of our aims,” Brazilian midfielder Casemiro told reporters. “And if we don’t concede a goal, it’s not just thanks to the guys at the back. Those up front help us a lot and that makes the difference.”
Meanwhile, Peru is hoping that its run of good form – they are coming off a 3-0 win over two-time defending Copa America champions Chile – will mean it can give Brazil a much better match than it did two weeks ago.
“I don’t know how to beat Brazil,” Peru manager Ricardo Gareca told reporters before the final. “But I do know we have players who can find the answer.”
Mexico, US Meet Again in Gold Cup
The long soccer Sunday will end with the Gold Cup final, in which Mexico will take on the United States. The two traditional CONCACAF powerhouses have dominated the competition historically, but haven’t actually played each other in the final since 2011.
This year, the two sides have again shown themselves to be the class of the tournament, with both being impressive at times, while showing surprising vulnerability against some weaker opponents. In the end, though, neither has suffered a loss heading into the final, and while the USA may have been firing on all cylinders against Jamaica in the semis, it is Mexico that has taken the mantle of favorite heading into Sunday’s match.
We know Mexico’s a great team,” USA star Christian Pulisic said after the win over Jamaica. “I think it’s going to be a great game. I’m so excited for it.”
If the Americans can pull off the minor upset against Mexico, it could mean a historic one-day double for the United States. The US women are taking on the Netherlands in the Women’s World Cup final earlier in the day, with the USA (-650) posted as a heavy favorite over the Dutch (+440).
