Delaware iGaming revenue generated online from interactive slot machines, table games, and sports betting soared in its first full month of being operated by BetRivers.
Last August, the Delaware Lottery announced BetRivers, Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming’s interactive gaming firm, as its next iGaming partner. The news came after the lottery’s longstanding relationship with 888 Holdings dissolved after more than a decade.
The Delaware deal marked BetRivers’ fifth iGaming launch. The company holds online casino licenses in every state where such gambling is legal, other than in Connecticut.
Partnering with the experienced iGaming operator is already paying off for the state.
BetRivers’ online casino and sports betting platform commenced in Delaware on December 27. In January, its first full month, BetRivers demonstrated to state officials and the public what a proficient operator can deliver.
January Surge
Delaware iGaming revenue in December totaled $1.16 million. After BetRivers took control in late December, and internet sports betting was introduced, online gross gaming revenue (GGR) rose 66% to more than $3.4 million.
BetRivers registered 24,703 iGaming accounts during the month. The registrations are in addition to previous accounts on 888, as those accounts were migrated to BetRivers. 888 typically averaged less than 1,000 new monthly account registrations. Anyone aged 21 and older who is physically located inside Delaware can register an iGaming account to gamble online while inside the state’s borders.
The First State is a major summer getaway destination with its many beach towns. Delaware also hosts two annual NASCAR races at the Dover Motor Speedway, which adjoins Bally’s Dover.
During 888’s management, the best month in terms of Delaware iGaming GGR was March 2023. That’s when the platform won $1.42 million off interactive gamblers.
BetRivers’ iGaming interface and assortment of slots, tables, and games is resonating with Delawareans and travelers to the state. BetRivers recently announced expanded iGaming options in Delaware through a partnership with White Hat Studios, a leading provider of interactive casino games.
BetRivers contracts White Hat in its other game states, too. The deal in Delaware means iGaming players can gamble on popular titles like Almighty Buffalo Megaways and Jackpot Royale.
The BetRivers deal additionally allowed the iGaming firm to run online sports betting, something 888 wasn’t permitted to do. Sports betting presumably accounted for many of the new account registrations and helped propel the January activity.
State Benefit
Commercial casino gaming operates on behalf of the Delaware Lottery. The state’s three casinos operate video lottery terminals that look and operate like slots, plus retail table games.
The Delaware Lottery takes 38% of the video lottery win and 15% of table revenue. Casino taxes also benefit the state’s horsemen.
iGaming and sports betting benefits general government spending. About 56% of the GGR from online slots and tables is allocated to the Delaware General Fund. The casinos share in the remaining proceeds with BetRivers. About half of the net sports betting revenue also goes to the General Fund.
We are honored to collaborate with the Delaware Lottery team and the state’s three casinos to offer consumers in Delaware a safe, convenient, and innovative online entertainment experience,” Richard Schwartz, CEO of Rush Street Interactive, said last month.
Delaware is one of only six states that have legal iGaming. The others are neighboring Pennsylvania and New Jersey, plus Michigan, West Virginia, and Connecticut.
