Casinos are riding high on the convention business. Most conventioneers have their corporate cards and expense reports so fees or $7 water bottles don’t affect them. Wait till there’s another recession and watch all these fees go poof. Unfortunately, I believe the damage is done and those who made Vegas an annual trip will have already found another place to host their traditions. All the money the casinos gouged from us will have to be spent trying to convince us to come back.

I used to have a casino host with the MGM group that was competent, able and friendly. He was let go, along with many other senior hosts. They assigned a young attractive, incompetent and clueless host to me. Comps seem to have dried up to hardly, no coffee in the room and have to take the journey down to the casino floor and buy super expensive coffee. It just continues to build. Im done. I am so very well accommodated for here in the local southern cal casinos. I may be missing some shows and fights, but all the penny pinching and sticking it to the players is just too much. Im done.

I expect the casinos to make money, but come on now !Resort fees, parking fees and now drink fees. What next are they also going to charge a toilet usage fee ? Get a grip Vegas corporate pencil necks. Don’t you realize what you will later do to the bottom line? Most Californians, and other state residents, will just stay home and go to their local casinos.

Vegas is not what it used to be. Hungry and greedy corporate executives are not thinking. A dollar a day everyday is better than $5.00 just once. They need a paradigm shift !

I loved going to Vegas for two decades. But first came the ridiculous “resort fees,” charging extra for free newspapers, workout room, etc., and taxing that add-on. During my last visit I had to pay to park in the endless stretches of parking garages. Now, drinks fees.
Gaming is never really about winning money; few do. It’s about entertainment, managed risk, and the excitement of the unknown just ahead. By tacking on so many extra fees, the Vegas casino corporations are making those intangibles just too pricey, especially now with so many casinos strung out around the U.S.
Greed and hubris will bring this unreal destination city down.

This is why the IMSC is not hosting our conferences there any longer. It was getting out of control for our attendees. The fees they charge for those hosting conferences are through the roof along with all of the extra charges for those who attend the events.

From the get-go several years ago, I always looked at the “resort fees” charged by properties as nothing more than a pathetic attempt to “disguise” rate hikes. Now these new “mandatory service charges” on food and beverage purchases are adding serious insult to monetary injury! Ridiculous! I’ve already cut my visits to Las Vegas in half, and it’s safe to say that I am “one additional fee away” from simply discontinuing my visits to Sin City!

My wife and I have been blessed and have visited Las Vegas over 60 times since 1986 and have brought well over 100 newbies and many of them have returned. We used to get treated like royalty now with all the ridiculous motel fees and car rental fees, we only visit once a year to catch a hockey game. Really, how rape us so badly, you no longer are my favorite town and you offer absolutely nothing for loyalty. Really miss the Dunes and the Sands!

I remember the days when food, drinks, and rooms were very cheap…. the idea was to get people to come and make money off of the gambling. Now, the shows are ridiculously priced, rooms are expensive, and the food prices out of control. Then to top it off with all these resort or hotel fees… not even worth going anymore.

My neighbor is a room attendant, she tells me the tips have gotten “lean” & maybe she needs to rethink her line of work too. These resort fees going directly into the Corporate pocket don’t help those who do the “work” & create the experience. It’ll be a while before I go.down on the strip again. Just saying …

Drink fees are yet another reason to pregame before going to any venue. Grab something from one of the many liquor outlets on the strip and consume it on your way. How is it that these places can’t survive on their already ridiculous drink prices. Last time I was at Drai’s, with tip, a Coors Light was $17. People, including me, are absolutely stupid to pay those prices. Resort fees and drink fees are a big part of the reason I don’t consider Vegas an attractive destination any longer.

Even when I started going in the 80’s, they still had the cheap room’s in the back of the hotels on the strip – the old motel type rooms behind the resorts. They still had the cheap buffets, loose slots and good free entertainment on stages just off the casino floors. I started going less when they tore down the cheap rooms and forced everyone to stay in the expensive rooms as they started trying to make it a “family destination” and stopped going personally after they added the “resort fees”. I used to go at least 3-4 times a year, now I go once every 4 or 5 years, typically when I have to go for business and the company is paying for it. As for gambling, I just drive 2 hours to the Indian casinos – the slots aren’t loose, but at least they are near by so I do not need to stay in a hotel. Screw Vegas – the greed of the mob was nothing compared to the greed of the modern corporations. At least the mob knew that they had to keep bringing the customers back.

I stopped going to Vegas years ago, due to their attitudes toward guests. Rude staff, not just in hotels and casinos, but car rental, parking lots, everywhere. Since I stopped going I hear about all the miscellaneous fees and rising prices and traffic congestion…forget it. Now I hear the big gambling organizations are moving down to Laughlin…Lesson in how to kill a town coming your way.

Vegas was known for good deals for vacations for everyone. The casino’s should remember what draws in the locals, tourist and visitors. If they are treating people like a number instead of the hospitality it was built on. They will lose millions of dollars, cause an recession from greed and most of all they will lose loyal customers. People are still looking for good deals and if Vegas wants to dime them to death. People will go to other states and places where the deals are. The best concept: “Vegas loves money, but people loves deals. Don’t forget Casino’s without the people, theirs no business. Think back when people wasn’t spending money in Vegas and it caused casino’s to layoff thousands. Don’t allow greed to cause a repeat.

I’ve been a resident of Las Vegas for 27 years. In the last 8 years or so I’ve seen the “fees” rise to ridiculous heights!
Well, it can only be blamed on the bigger than life corporate GREED!
They’ve lost touch with the most important factor that keeps Vegas a thriving destination, THE TOURISTS! The locals are necessary as well during the off seasons, (if there is actually an off season).
Keep alienating the people who come here to spend their hard earned money you greedy corporate butt-hats!

I just returned from the Sahara in Las Vegas. The hotel is just a step over motel 6, yet they charge almost 50.00 a day to stay there. They had a jack hammer going outside my room at 5:50 AM, and a forklift in the building tearing up the place. I personally think they should finish up the place, get internet in their 1970’s decorated rooms with moldy carpet and get smart when it comes to ripping people off with the “I think we are a new modern hotel and can charge a fortune to stay there” attitude. I won’t be back.. ever. Too easy to stay in the surrounding areas for less and have more. Place is a dump. It’s almost funny that they got that bold with their “room charges”and didn’t figure out the consequences to come.

My family and I reside all over the USA… We would gather together in Las Vegas for a week, every year. We would spend plenty of money in rooms and food and drinks and so on. However, due to the mandatory fees, like parking, even if you don’t have a car, resort fees and drinks fees, we will never, never go back… We thought that spending that money somewhere else, where they would appreciate our business was the best idea from now on. So, as they say in the movies, we will always have somewhere else… Good bye Vegas.

If people respected hospitality workers, would stop pretending that since they are from another country they don’t know or tipping procedure,If locals would stop under tipping because they live here and feel entitled…..look I get it seems unfair…but no one talks about the fact that some people tip 10% and then gives a compliment…because that can pay bills… help their children…or even feed them. So I understand being frustrated…but try serving for 90 days…..see if you don’t get a different view about humanity….and they’re Jack of humanity to the lowly hospitality worker.

This is one of the reasons why I continue to go to Atlantic City instead of Vegas! They do have resort fees there too but so far they are not nickle and dimeing you to death. I get free parking at the Golden Nugget and it costs me $20 to stay there each day. The Ocean Casino Resort also has free parking. We use Jitney transportation when we go back and forth to the boardwalk or other casinos at a cost of $2.25 a trip. The ocean and beaches are something you won’t find in Vegas. And they have world class entertainment. I’m not going to Vegas anytime soon.

Go to Vegas at least yearly and have never thought resort fees were anything but deception on the part of casinos. These new fees are certainly out of line and I love Vegas for food, entertainment, and gaming but have decided not to go anymore or stay where these fees are not added or pour my own in the room. Downtown Vegas looking better option for me if I go.

The way I’ve always seen resort fees is they are to cover the actual costs so the casino can take any charges for room, meals, etc. and consider them profits.

Now with the new ‘venue fee’ they want the resort fees added to the profits. Don’t be suprised at how much money the new fee can pull in!

The managers, executives and CEO have to get creative to keep those bonuses flowing!

Las Vegas is always a looking glass for money trends, and this trend dramatically highlights the rest of the US Greed Machine’s harvesting of our money via gouging, nickel-and-diming us to death, ludicrous fees, blackmail, extortion or outright fraud, and it’s nothing new; this started with Reagan’s Rectum in the early 80s, but Greed is as American as Apple Pie laced with Sodium Morphate.

Treating good customers as nothing more than Monopoly pieces became the sole obsession of the Bean Counters, who sit around watching Wall Street results hoping for a promotion which is already squirreled away into their bosses’ wallets.

My disgust was complete when I watched them TRIPLE THE AMOUNT OF CHANGE YOU NEEDED TO PUT INTO PAY PHONES in the poor urban ghettos in the Nineties . Harvesting cash from POOR HUNGRY PEOPLE. Isn’t Capitalism a thrilling sport?

The article did not mention the other fees. All strip casinos charge $3 for 15 cent bottled water. Getting Blackjack on a $10 bet now only gets you a $12 win instead of $15. The slots are also tighter than they used to be. The scary thing is that casinos seem to be getting together on these decisions which is illegal.
