Worked there in 1985 to 87 when it was tagged as the Island of Las Vegas. It was a great property back then and had the best pool area in Las Vegas. Lots of great memories and will surely miss her when she’s gone.

I first stayed at the Trop in December of 1961, when I was 6. My parents, brothers, and I were driving from Minnesota to California to see the Gophers play UCLA in the Rose Bowl. We stayed at the Trop on the way, where my folks played golf and went to the Follies, and where we three boys swam in the pool and putted golf balls on the practice green in the front of the hotel. I have pictures of us putting, in the pool, and posing with a towering, decked out “Follies” girl. The look on my 12 year old brother’s face as he looks at her is priceless. We farm boys hadn’t seen anything like that back home! I returned many times through the 90’s but, as the property tired, I drifted to more modern hotels. I’ll miss her, as she was one of the original greats.

All the History of the Las Vegas Strip is all taken away….Nothing is left now… Large Corporations are destroying the Culture and the Theme….Nothing is inexpensive anymore….Just look at what the Hotels and Restaurants charge now…. Resort Fees, Franchise Fees, Parking Fees, and Expensive Buffets….The 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s were the Best of Times…

I remember staying at the Tropicana in 1980 for a convention.(My first visit to Las Vegas at age 24. It seemed very isolated since all the rest of the strip casinos were very far away. After coming back from the convention the first day and sitting at the bar in the lobby, I watched a beautiful young women standing in front of the elevators propositioning nearly all the men who were heading upstairs to their rooms.

The “Trop” was the cat’s meow when I started going there in the late 70’s. It was the classiest hotel/casino in Vegas.

This is the only place we ever stayed at when we were going yearly to Vegas. We would bring my mom and we had so much fun. Dusty was a wonderful woman who helped us a lot!

“Progress” in this town sucks. All the classic ladies of the strip are either gone or unrecognizable. At least downtown is somewhat left intact from the good ol days…

Corporations have ruined LV

The bungalow rooms were cool! I stayed there a few years ago and specifically booked one to see what it was like. The second floor room had a tiny balcony for two, but the first floor ones had a large terrace with direct pool access. It was fun imagining what it would’ve been like back in the day.

It’s absolute rubbish that the rooms were closed “in preparation for demolition”. They were closed because there aren’t enough housekeeping staff to service them. With the exception of long seniority employees who are waiting for the cash payoff for staying until the bitter end, employees are finding new jobs.

Bally’s certainly was not able to do anything else with the property. Will they eventually have to make a similar business decision in Chicago?
