My property is taxed on the estimated value of my building and land. It has nothing to do with how much I earned from year to year. I always assumed the business property taxes were the same: based on the value of the building, the land, the location of the land, and the purchase (or build) cost.
Also, look how many employees the casino laid off, and ones brought back without benefits or sick days, and other cuts the casino made. I’m guessing The Rivers found ways to save money during COVID too, right? And their online betting has seen a huge profit.
Am I missing something here? When is income/profit the property’s “value”, ever? The casino always stated that their taxes would benefit the city, yet they fight paying taxes, even fought the city of Pittsburgh for not wanting to allow employees paid time off. In 2016, they sued to avoid paying slots tax. Why bring a business into the city when the business isn’t being a “good neighbor” and paying their fair share like the rest of us?
