Raleigh, NC, which has a metro area population over 2 million and growing very fast, seems to be on MLB radar. Baseball is huge in the area, due to the world class college baseball programs (NC State, UNC, ECU, etc) in the area. Climate is very good for baseball. Durham Bulls minor league team is sold out frequently. All of that is great, but the biggest thing they have going for them is Tom Dundon. Billionaire owner of DriveTime, previously TopGolf, and the Carolina Hurricanes. He’s a big developer and is currently developing the area around the PNC arena. He has also publicly stated many times recently that he would like to bring an MLB team in. The area is affluent as well. If he gets even a sniff at the As, I’ll bet he will be hard to contend with.

Disclosure: I moved to Vegas from Raleigh, so I have a little insight.

Random thought: Build the ballpark Downtown. 1) Gives downtown an entertainment foundation; 2) Steady stream of visitors; 3) Redevelopments vacant lots; 4) Freeway convenient; 5) Potentially gives A’s some local/street cred. (apologies for any duplication)

I’m still confused how a ballpark can generate enough revenue to justify using the best piece of property in Vegas? There’s no existing fan base in Vegas plus, Vegas is a relatively small city by population to even build a base. Also, how many residents would turn into regular ticket buyers?. everything else is based on tourist and many tourist already have a MLB team at home. finally you have ticket prices. just because it’s Vegas doesn’t mean you can over charge for tickets to a MLB game. most stadiums you can get seats for very cheap($10) if you don’t mind maybe the outfield. It’s certainly safe to say the interest on the building loans will far outweigh ticket sales for many years. This deal doesn’t make sense and like crime, there must be a motive to push this through. I’m talking bad motive.

This whole thing is like a bad sequel to Major League. Trash the team, get attendance down to zero and get approval from MLB to move the team. In this sequel they succeed at trashing the team, but the whole move goes bust and the team gets a new place to play in their home town after MLB forces the owner to sell the team to someone who gives a flying F%#K about the actual team. As belong in Oakland. Raiders belong in Oakland. Fisher ruined the chance for both teams to succeed in Oakland. Now he is ruining their chance at success in Las Vegas.

Whoa LV let’s all take a step back. Look who you are dealing with here, IMO Fisher makes a snake oil salesman look good. Here is a man who gets millions in MLB revenue yet ran his team like an AA minor league. He traded talent away and had a filthy ballpark. How any city would want to get in bed with the Fishers should have their head examined. The product he is bringing to your town will not produce the projection he’s claiming. Good luck LV if you bite on this fiasco.
