A “musical” is a theatrical piece in which song and dance advances character and plot. Fact is, the Steinman/Meatloaf songs are, themselves, compact musical pieces with their own inherent “plot” and “story.” They just can’t be shoehorned into some perfunctory plot line and transformed into something coherent.
They’d have been better off just performing a Meatloaf tribute show, like “Purple Reign,” rather than try to pass it off as “musical theater.”
