Living in a neighboring state I travel to Vegas at least once a year and I’m now in no hurry to ever visit again. Removing these trees and the lies associated with the removal by MGM has thoroughly disgusted me. The beauty of these mature trees is no match for local greed apparently.

Really, wasn’t this poor planning from the beginning? I also think there’s an inner revolt with casino workers that will reflect in how they treat guests and tourist for those couple of weeks which really hurts the casinos in the long run. Point from Scott, casinos are scrambling like rats on a sinking ship. all those delusions of sold out rooms are quickly fading. put it all together and what do you get? not good.

Trees that add to the ambience of LVB were hacked down for a 3 day event, Bellagio fountain views screwed for ? weeks before and after, LVB stinking of asphalt all summer/fall, Collapsed transit system due to gridlock, employees taking hours to get to work. LVB shutdown for preceding 10 days (I believe?) So that the (multi)millionaires of the world can jet in and party in LV, safely isolated from the priced out poors that y’all so desperate to accommodate the other 360 days of the year. All things considered (+ 3 days in Nov) (- 6 months disruption), I can’t believe this is a good thing for the “entertainment capital of the world”.

Our plant backed up to the 605 & 210 freeway interchange. Somebody decided they needed a new cell phone tower just over the property line. They took down two real palm trees and put in the tower–cleverly disguised to look like a palm tree. I guess that’s progress.

Are they going to install new trees after the race is over? Not sure how that will work, removing all those stumps and roots from the 20 year old trees they just cut down would be a major chore, probably have to tear up a lot of the sidewalk. And if they do that they’d have to remove the new trees this time next year, and the year after. Looks like another bad consequence of this F1 race.

Yeah, that’s not happening. It’s just going to be one big wax job of baldness. That’s the biggest coup by MGM’s PR team. Convincing you that you won’t be able to see the race from the competitors across the street.
