There’s so much competition on the strip right now. RW, FB, Sahara and of course all the established casino resorts, how is FB going to draw enough tourist revenue to keep the doors open is beyond me. Hell, just the interest rate on debt, you better be ready to sell a lot of hot dogs to pay that alone. Instead of paying a DJ 20K a night, why not use that cash to cater to locals? comps, comps, comps would bring a far greater amount of gambling and food/drink revenue. Casinos just don’t get it.

Agree that these club DJ’s salaries are insane but they bring in the huge crowds of mindless partiers willing to overspend for a few hours of drunken celebration. Being part of that scene is super-important to lots of self-absorbed individuals looking for validation of their success in life. Doesn’t matter the cost. In fact that’s part of the bragging afterwards, proves to themselves how much they value it & that they are worth it. And the Vegas casino resorts are very happy to provide this because of how much revenue they get.

This is an aspect of entertainment in the modern era that has passed me by completely; and maybe it’s just as well. And as if that weren’t enough, they’re so short of new ideas that they’re pirating the same old DJ’s back and forth from each other.
As a product of the 1950’s and ’60’s, I think of DJ’s as guys who play records on the air, and sometimes also at concerts or high-school proms. And if one or two of them built up a local cult following, and maybe cooked the books to advance some artist like Elvis a bit beyond what he “deserved”–well, that was part of the deal: sort of a “fringe benefit.” How did I get so cynical? Probably Watergate.

I’m a 49 year old suburban dad. I only know who Tiesto and Zedd are because Vital Vegas has told me who Tiesto and Zedd are. But I do know they command a huge price tag and this is a “gamble” for sure. Lots of money needs to be brought in to RW and FB to keep the lights on. Good stuff as always even if it has nothing to do with me.

Entertainment, absolutely, but I don’t see how Tiesto will draw a demographic that actually has “wealth”. club goers will spend money at the club, but they won’t be in the high roller room dropping big cash. Also, Isn’t the whole DJ thing kind of over?.

The only thing lamer than a DJ is how much they get paid. Everyone raise your hands to my laptop. Absolutely zero artistic ability. FB hiring Tiesto or any other DJ is testimony to the poor decision making by management and it doesn’t take many of those bad decisions before red ink starts flowing.
