I presently live here now, from Oregon. Retired railroader!!! In the 70’s everywhere had $1.00 tables, $5.00 tables were high stakes!!! Dollar tables are fun, gives a guy a fighting chance and room to relax!!! The idea is to get people in the door, drinks and food surely follow!!! Also, more places should offer specials to all veterans and active duty personnel!!! at least once or twice a week, advertise, in the long run it get the locals out…weekends are for out-of-towners!!!! We stayed there several times back in the 1990’s when it was the Lady Luck. At that time it was a little threadbare, but it still had some things going for it despite the bad location.
We haven’t been back since then, and in fact haven’t been downtown at all in several years because of the parking fees and other turn-offs. And $1.00 six-to-five Blackjack isn’t going to change that, at least for me (see above).

Downtown Grand? It is still alive? I think it is the most mismanaged casino in all of Nevada. I feel so sorry for whoever has money invested there.

I’ve said it before and I’ll skip the complicated math this time; but a 6-5 Blackjack game has a house edge approximately 1.5% higher than an otherwise identical 3-2 game. According to some reports [1] the Hooters/OYO game is even worse, paying even money on Blackjacks with less than $5 bet. That raises the edge almost another whole percent. But it’s just like resort fees: as long as people are willing to play it, the casinos will continue to offer it.
My cousin plays games like this because of the low limits, even after having it explained to him several times. At least he sets stop-losses, and frequently hits them.
