Unbelievably we were in Las Vegas this past weekend staying at the El Cortez. My daughter, son in law and grandson (who’s 8) stayed down the street since there is supposedly a No kids allowed policy anywhere in the hotel and the restaurant “Siegel’s”. While my husband and I ate breakfast there, in walked a family with 3 little kids. We asked the hostess why? Our grandson was not allowed in. Apparently this was the owner and his family dining and their kids are allowed??? How incredibly rude to not follow your own rules and flaunt it in front of everyone else.

This is just sad. We booked this place because I grew up at the El Cortez. My Great Grandparents who raised me use to take me here. He would often talk to Jackie and play slots or keno at the coffee shop while I played in the arcade that was right next to the gift shop. We use to do the crab legs Friday nights. Now to see how they want to be so anti kid these days is just sad. It was an awesome place to be and they were always so kid friendly before. I could walk through the Casino by myself at 9 and 10 years old and they didn’t look twice at me. Not sure if it was because who my great grandpa was friends with or not but I never had an issue. Now I am having my wedding in vegas and have everyone staying at el cortez and then I hear this news when I have a 3 year old and wanted to pass on the el cortez tradition. Looks like this may be the end for el cortez. You kill the tradition by removing future generations from seeing it early and you will rely on your old reputation to bring business alone. I don’t think Jackie would have gone adults only if he was still around.

We noted the excellent suggestion below that you interview Liz, the long-time cocktail waitress at El Cortez. Please also consider talking to Paula, a waitress at Siegel’s 1941. She’s been working there for 30 years, and pointed us towards the Bugsy Siegel memorabilia that had been donated to the hotel by one of his daughters. Included among the collectables are his talit (Jewish prayer shawl), family photos and his handwritten letters.

In reply to Gregm. This is fine, and we know lots of peeps don’t want kids in Vegas. I brought mine for the first time last year at age 15. We stayed 3 nights at Excalibur for obvious reasons and 2 at Plaza so they could see what’s left of real, original LV. I didn’t bring screaming toddlers and I’m fine keeping the minors who are full grown and actually act and look like grownups out of the way of disapproving grownups: But keep in mind, I’m cultivating your next generation of visitors and doing so responsibly.
