It won’t take traffic off the streets because you have to get to the tunnel. That is the part that doesn’t work. Here in LA his test model was simply a car on rails, because there is no efficient way to get private automobiles from the street to the tunnel without them backing up into the street in periods of high usage. It might be a quick way to get from the airport to the strip, but that seems like a small addition.

Tunnels and rails are severely limiting. You can redirect buses from one highway to another, but how easily is it to move trains around to meet the need.

Given the taxi companies are hemorrhaging, they’ll soon be out of business. If they’re not going to attach the rail to the airport, which would still suck for many people wanting to access the west side of the strip from NYNY to Circas Circas, then go for it, dig a tunnel for the primary purpose of moving people between the airport and major properties on the strip. Subway systems work in major cities, why not the Munnel in Vegas?

In reply to Boulder Steve. Monorail is an eyesore and doesn't go where you want to go. A tunnel under the strip and going to the airport would be great. I can see major casinos supporting this if it reduces traffic jams on the strip while bringing more people to the casinos without the headaches of parking for all concerned.
