Scott, you need to go back one more time! The original name of MGM–Bally’s steakhouse was called Barrymore’s! named after the Barrymore family from the MGM stable of actors. I worked there as a waiter in the 80s…. The GiGI restaurant (also at MGM–Bally’s) was the best restaurant EVER to hit this town! Long gone once Bally’s got there hooks on things. Love your vintage Vegas stuff Scott, keep up the pretty good work!

This seems expensive even by Vegas standards. By the looks of the plate in the picture, the sides aren’t even “shareable” as that appears to be smallish bowl of mashed potatoes in the picture next to the prime rib?

BLT Steak was a good restaurant, high-end, but not $17-for-a-potato crazy.
This place can keep their $7 steak sauce. Just two weeks ago, I had the $21 prime rib dinner at Ellis Island, and it was fine. Plus, there was a bottle of A-1 Steak Sauce RIGHT THERE ON THE TABLE!!!

Wow, those prices are incredibly high in my opinion. $300 plus for two, easily. The strip keeps on pricing me out with high prices and poor gambling conditions.

A far cry from the old basement midnight Steak Special at the original Binion’s.
The menu reminds me of an old joke set at the Fontainebleau in Miami: the guest picks up a pen at the registration desk and asks, “What do you have for $200 a night?”
The clerk replies, “You’re holding it.”

Sounds like there was a buffet war in Vegas. Trying to be everything to everyone at each casino. For me, all the lines were a deterrent.

There are Horseshoe resorts throughout the US. Pretty much everyone of them has a Jack Binion’s. The big difference is that a baked potato will cost you $17 here instead of $11 in Tunica. Perhaps this is another example of the strip “Olive Garden Effect”. Tourists used to expect Vegas to be completely new every nite. Now, when faced with a barrage of what may be very expensive bad choices, tourists trust the familiar. They look for a celebrity or brand they know. Something from home has huge gravity.
