The Mob Museum has an entire expansion plan that includes the parcel where the old bus terminal sits today. Their dream plan includes a building that more or less wraps around the historic courthouse and includes a garage, a restaurant, tons more exhibit space (they’ve got oodles of artifacts in climate-controlled storage), moving the distillery, turning the entire existing basement into a larger speakeasy, a new interactive experience, and a lot more. We’ve a friend on staff who snapped photos of the proposed floorpans that they’ve got hanging in their break room—five stories in all, with a connector bridge to the existing building, event space, even an auditorium that the Smith Center will probably fight tooth and Myron. How they’ll staff the whole thing is a mystery given These Times, but it’s an ambitious ambition.

Two years prior to the opening of The Mob Museum, The Gangster Museum of America opened in Hot Springs,AR. Hot Springs had casino gambling, illegally but wide open, before Las Vegas had water. Many gangland luminaries visited the Spa City to relax and have a little fun. Close to a million history lovers have visited The Gangster Museum since its’ opening in 2008. I assisted the Mob Museum staff prior to their opening and congratulate them on their success.
