Plus it shrank to a 60 minute show. Still good acts, not worth the $. Cosmo will surely take a complete dive when MGM takes over. MGM still hasn’t even compensated guest who endured “hack week” – sad on them and no sympathy they lost $100+ million, a drop in the bucket to all the gouging that Vegas has become.

Stayed “off-strip,” all but the last night comped. Free valet parking, great poker room, several good restaurants, and good VP–so you can probably guess the name of the place. We didn’t leave the building for the whole four days; then took a spin around town on the way home to check out F1 preparations and the Sphere–from the outside. Both were impressive, but neither was worth much to me. Lost money this trip, but had a good time; so there’s minimal remorse here. (Now if I’d paid a bunch of resort fees and parking charges, maybe….) In fact, I’m sort of hoping for another comp offer after the F1 Hoopla subsides: but if not, I can live with it. I may even still have a similar offer at a similar place; but want to wait until a few weeks after F1. So there are still some good deals to be found in Las Vegas: just not as many, and not quite as good as the old days. But in general I agree with the rest of your post on the lowered expectations and the corporate-bean-counter mentality. I continue to believe that some day all this will come back to bite them, and the whole thing will just implode. Then they’ll realize they’ve systematically alienated their core customer base for years, and it will be very difficult to recover. At that point, I may go back into politics: after all, I’m only 78….

I work in a casino and in the last 6 years I can count on one hand how many hand pays from a slot machine over 2K. The life that once was Vegas has been sucked out by greed. the vision that made Vegas great has faded away and all that’s left are super tight slots, super high food, booze and room prices. I can’t imagine why people come here, there’s no value in anything. at least if you want to vacation. I suppose it’s bragging rights to your friends that you went to Vegas. I gotta believe there’s lots of buyers remorse when people get home.
