Well, They are doing nothing to lure those from the strip and locals, so I am not surprised. Back in it’s heyday, The Rio used two fabulous buffets and the show in the sky. As a local, I would rather go to the Palms where they have a great buffet, a movie theater and a great atmosphere. What is the Rio counting on? An overpriced food hall. In my one visit about two months after Dreamscape took over, we lost about $400. Not surprising to lose money but I was insulted by a e-mail offering me $5 free-play about a month after.

In reply to Lucky Larry. It’s incredible how willing people are to pontificate on subjects they know absolutely nothing about. Such opinions tend to come from people who aren’t particularly successful and aren’t having their work stolen frequently. Confirming a story isn’t original reporting. The inability to spot or condemn unethical behavior is one of the reasons the Review-Journal and others continue to act unethically. I was going to delete the comment, but it’s illustrative of the profoundly stupid logic the RJ uses, and sometimes people need to hear the stupidity for themselves to help understand how engrained the problem is.

I have stayed at the Rio twice in the last 3 months. The layoffs are definitely felt. From long lines at check in due to limited space, to not having housekeeping availability. I hope the renovations are finished soon. It’s a great value when visiting Las Vegas

I really enjoyed the parade in the sky shows and disappointed when they ceased operations. It made it a unique destination, not just another casino offering the same games just with a splash of color. I know the management is in cut mode now to stabilize cashflow and operations, but I hope they consider restarting and utilizing the unique facilities they have at some point. And as others have mentioned, the buffet they offered at one point was also a huge draw for me, and well worth the short trip off strip. When I’ve gone to the Palms recently, the line for the buffet is always down the corridor. It may be a “loss leader”, but it gets people in the doors. Maybe give people a small value slots “ticket in” with the purchase of a buffet and now you’ve got someone sitting at one of the machines, waiting for the show in the sky to start and sliding in another 10 or 20 while they wait.

Well, ya know, you get rid of the buffet and you eliminate a good reason for people to visit your casino. I have gone to the Palms more since the pandemic just for the buffet. You can say “loss leader” and all that B.S. but if it was me running a casino, I would give EVERY reason for people to visit, not FEWER. Are you reading this Rio?
