Just stayed at Rio during the Star Trek Convention ironically (being a diehard ST fan but NOT a fan of OVERPAYING FEES for autographs that don’t mean much at this point in my life). Nice room upgrade from the old (didn’t appreciate the snarky looks by maids when I gave them a wee tip for towels that they failed to replace in the first place).
Only reason I stayed was for the COMP’d room AND WAIVED RESORT FEES. Here is my point. Differeniate from the mass and DROP THE RESORT FEES. That ONE reviled and hair pulling FEE could pull in more foot traffic and stays. Especially for those who EARNED COMP’d ROOMS. Speaking of which, I won’t be back for a stay COMP’d or otherwise UNLESS said RESORT FEES ARE GONE (or at least WAIVED).

We went about a month ago to check it out. The section where the show in the sky was had a prominent moldy smell. Hopefully that will go away with new carpet. There was also very little video poker offerings. They were replacing carpet where a lot of them were in the past so maybe that’s temporary.

I believe they are making a mistake by not offering a buffet or a show in the sky. They need to offer things to attract folks from the strip and locals like in the glory days with two buffets (one was seafood) and the show in the sky. That’s why we visited when we were tourists.
