Whatever happened to the free shuttle bus to the off strip casinos instead of forcing people to ride share. It would absolutely bring foot traffic. No one even thinks of the Rio if you have to pay 20 bucks to get there.

In reply to ChrisInTn. Yes, the Carnival World Buffet opened in the original resort and was a smash hit. The taller towers were added and they opened a seafood buffet on the opposite side from the first buffet. The seafood buffet was turned into a KISS-related shop, I think.

All these management teams have visions on how they can churn a profit. They think that college education is bound to work but, It won’t take long before the reality sets in and accounting starts shouting “we’re sinking”. Then upper management starts cutting lower management until finally the big boss cuts everyone and makes a deal to ditch the place. Yes, he’ll make money but in the end Rio is toast. Am I making this up or MANY years ago they actually had two buffets? One normal and one that was solely seafood? It’s been 20 years since I have been there so maybe I just ate a lot of seafood at the buffet that one night.

Now everyone has a Food Hall. Truly thinking outside of the box would be to bring back Rio’s giant buffet. They could have seafood on weekends and charge a premium. That would pull people into the casino. The food hall will do nothing.

It’s a mistake to reopen without some kind of inexpensive buffet. They need something–in fact, several things–to distinguish the “New Rio” from the old Rio and from the dozens of mediocre strip resorts nearby. Or maybe they expect to open a clone of [insert name of any major strip resort here] with the same high prices, nuisance fees, bad games, etc. and have people come over from the strip just by Brownian motion….
