We lived in Santa Monica, our entire kitchen and dining room emptied out onto the floor, including that bottle and all of our wedding crystal, it was over a foot deep in broken glass… We had to climb over collapsed book cases to get to our then one year old son, who amazingly slept through it. I have been through several big ones, the Northridge quake was the only one I thought I was going to die during. Sherman Oaks took a big beating as well, there was a huge apartment complex right behind Barone’s restaurant that collapsed, glad you survived…

Great story. That Don Rickles champagne is a collectors item for sure. I lived in Sherman Oaks during the Northridge quake. Lost many things but nothing irreplaceable like that

Very impressive restaurant lineup, I have always loved the Golden Nugget, the day before I got married 29 years ago we walked through the Nugget on the way to the courthouse to get our marriage license, right there on the casino floor, the owner was there, Steve Wynn. Very gracious, I made a joke about having towels ready for us, he played along. Later that night we saw Don Rickles there, he pulled me up onto the stage and ripped me, then he sent over a bottle of Don Rickles Champaign to our table. the bottle had a caricature of his face on it, we lost that bottle in the 1994 Northridge earthquake…

Golden Nugget Laughlin has had Saltgrass for years, on the lower level with a view of the river. It’s a good place to have a beer and split an appetizer at the bar. I haven’t been back there since before the pandemic, so can’t report on its current status.
