I’m going to disagree with your review, even though of course it’s not a review, since you never actually saw the show. I saw it for free, the night that he was shooting for a television special. Yes, every seat in the house was free. Yes, it did take almost 3 hours for everybody to get seated and for him to start the show. But the overall feeling of everyone in the audience was that the show was amazing and felt very big. Huge props and sets and special effects and video, made this show feel big, not like a little cheap b or c show. You could easily find a lot of things wrong with it, but if you take this show and put it up against most of the other shows that don’t have a celebrity in them, this is as good or better than most of them. The average out of town tourist left that theater feeling like they saw a big show. They were an incredible audience, and of course, that’s because they got in for free and thought they were part of a TV show! I enjoyed the show and thought that Mike Hammer was even funnier in this show than he is in his own show at the four Queens, mostly because the sets and budget are way bigger and so the show plays so much bigger than his show does in his little showroom. I think he’s hysterical in his own show, but he really did well in this big show. If the tickets were a little bit cheaper, I would recommend this to everyone.

I, unfortunately did see amystika back in June. Mistakingly thinking it was a Criss Angel show with Criss actually performing in it as all of the advertising implied. Truth is it is a show vaguely ABOUT Criss and him growing up. He does a short appearance before the show begins with the normal “thanks for coming… This show means a lot to me… Enjoy the show” and “watches it from the back” like he does “every night” which he goes and sits down and then, like magic, disappears the first time the audience is distracted by the stage.

All that being said the show it’s self wasn’t horrible a handful of the performers are actually impressive but for the most part it felt like a B, if not C, level variety show.
Was it worth it? Had I known I could have bought cheap seats and gotten free upgrade to fill in the seats and known if was a variety show of local magicians then yes I’d say it was alright. But instead I spent top dollar for front center seats just to watch the “bad seats” get moved up and center to fill in the empty good seats. And paid higher than I would normally have because I was going to see a Criss Angel show while in Vegas that surprisingly had no Criss Angel anywhere in it other than the prerecorded voice over and a bit at the beginning. In the long run me and my wife left feeling cheated we actually sat at a slot machine after the show just to play for a few minutes and get a drink before we even said anything about the show. It was disappointing to spend the money to get that. Anyway I wanted to share our experience with anyone that reads this and is tempted to pay the price. Do your research before you go so you aren’t blind sided during the show. I didn’t to keep it more of a surprise and honestly will not make that mistake again.

And yet… standing ovations. Vegas audiences give every show a standing ovation and encore calls no matter how awful it is. I’m not sure how this custom got started here. Perhaps audiences are being gracious, or even snide. But the S.O. has lost its meaning because every show gets them no matter how terrible the performance.
