I was there tonight.They have decided to play classic rock rather than have a DJ.They have added Chinese specials at S&O.When I was playing a message came on the screen saying I had $5 food credit at S&O.When I checked I had earned $25 food credits in about 20 minutes on a penny slot!
In the rooms they have added Chinese channels suggesting they are chasing this market possibly from SoCal.

I checked out the Grand to see what all the fuss is about. I came away impressed. The rehab results are innovative, interesting and spot on. Even the bathrooms were well done. As others have noted, the Grand was not very lively – there should have been more people inside. I peeked in the Mob Bar and there was literally only one couple sitting in a corner nursing their drinks. It’s a nice place – it should be thriving.

5th street needs more lighting. My wife and I did not feel comfortable walking back to Fremont Street late at night.

In reply to Mark Fisher. Great points, Mark. While we chose to highlight some positive steps in this piece, the challenges remain many. Aside from parking, there are also issues of morale among staff. Cutting staff means a lower level of customer service. We expect to meet with some execs of the hotel soon, and we'll pass along your concerns. They do seem to listen to feedback.

While all these changes are great, you will not get the locals driving downtown to the Grand until they get their parking situation handled. It used to be free valet parking and free self parking. Now they charge big time for both of these unless you get validation. Fair enough except the validation is random at best. If you park and spend some time at the Casino and then drop over to Pizza Rock or Triple George for dinner, the validation on the weekend is only for 2 hours. They don’t tell you that up front. Try getting your car out of the garage and they still want you to pay something like $6 more. And if you stop by Hogs and Heifers, who lease their property from 5th Street Gaming, the validation is no good for Valet parking and again only good for 2 hours in the garage. As a regular downtown visitor to 3rd street for 5 years, the parking has become a pain in the ass and makes my local bars closer to home in Henderson far more desirable. When I go downtown, I already am driving 26 miles each way to get there. The last thing I want is a hassle parking my car. Parking is free at any strip hotel including valet. Downtown Grand needs to go back to free parking and you will see more regular locals visiting your casino and restaurants.

I had the $1 tacos earlier this month. While not great in size, they were very tasty. Worth a dollar? Oh yeah.
