He “opened” for the Oak Ridge Boys in Mufreesboro, TN. I had never heard of him and thought he was absolutely hilarious smashing all the fruit. We had a VHS tape of him and we watched that 100 times over the years.

He didn’t smash any fruit,but spent about an hour speaking his mind – he told very un-pc jokes and observations,noting that his refusal to self-censor was why he didn’t get invited on TV any longer. It was a very invigorating show, very much like hanging out at his house one night.

Check out the YouTube video where he interrupted a struggling opening act on stage and lectured him on how to do comedy. Some think it was a gracious move by Leo. Some of us see it as very unprofessional and arrogant.

Not that funny or brilliant. And I read about his walking out of the Marc Maron podcast interview. Leo seemed like a bitter old comic in his final years. Perhaps comedy wasn’t the right avenue for him. Perhaps he would have been better served by another platform.
