It’s almost comical they built this “thing” and expected to make profit. just the interest on 2.1 billion dollars will keep you in the hole for many years, not to mention by the time any of the principle is paid off, the Video and audio will be old news. you’d make far more profit building a motel 6 and booking discount rooms than this kooky idea

Scott, I have to say your article was the funniest I’ve ever read in this column. I totally agree with everything you said about the Sphere. At my recent stay at the Palazzo, passing by the Sphere I thought it was in the weirdest location for something that was trying to sell advertising meant to be on the strip. The money that was spent developing Resorts World, the new Hard Rock addition makes sense and improves the look of Las Vegas. The Sphere looks like an overblown globe from Disney’s Epcot stuck in Las Vegas. I was expecting some amazing attraction, like a roller coaster, concert hall, etc.; instead, it is a round movie theater. Whoever made this decision will definitely be fired. I don’t think that was the original intent of the Sphere or I may be wrong, but keep up with a good writing.

I agree with Ed Biggs. Chances are (if they are smart) this is being built for an NBA team with use as a concert venue in the off season, that is the only way this thing will turn a profit. MSG is heavily connect with the NBA so all roads point to this being Vegas’s arena once a team is announced. This being a venue solely for concerts and conferences makes little sense financially.

50 is not outrageous for a tourist attraction on the strip these days… but NOTHING MORE! They want up to and over $200? Ridiculous. And I’m guessing the $50 seats are the nosebleed balcony seats… FOR A MOVIE. lol

I originally thought their business idea was good. Sell an inexpensive ($20-$40) ticket to a movie in there several times a day… sell food and alcohol along with it… sure they’ll probably get 2000+ people per day and make PLENTY of money to supplement daily operations costs in-between headliner events. But Jesus they’re insane! Lol
