How sad…Las Vegas has always had a romance, the strip, the casinos , gambling all the stories from the mob to Clark Gable, Las Vegas is Caesars, Tropicana, MGM, the former Frontier, Circus Circus, Riviera, the bright lights oh the memories…
How sad to loose the Tropicana, another great memory and memories!

Has any of you been to Vegas, to go see sports?
Anyone of going to Vegas and remembering sports?
My countless memories has been to fly into Vegas , and fly over the city of lights and gamble.
We have stayed at Caesars, MGM, Tropicana, and others…

Loosing so many iconic hotels , seems like a part of Vegas is dying..
And for SPORTS?
I don’t recall over the years anyone going for sports…times change for sure..
But that’s a big desert out there?
Build out there!
Not to mention?
Traffic? What will that be 30,000 people going and leaving a ball game, down town Vegas?

Yes..sad..
I won’t be going to Vegas for a ball game or sports.
I’m not a sports fan..

You can’t control the “corporate/government” machine. secret hand shakes, peep holes, clubhouses and passwords leading to the dirty money vault. go ahead and complain because by the time you realize there’s been a terrible plane crash on Tropicana, the kickbacks, over- budget contracts and bribes have already washed thru the machine and there’s no way to trace who got what.

Yes, I am SHOCKED at a few things
1) I do think the RIO thing would have been better
2) HATE the loss of the Trop
3) 30k seat Stadium?? Is that a SERIOUS thought for an MLB Team Stadium size?!?!? Expect the BADLY RUN A’s to stay that way and have the lowest allowable Payroll and therefore continue to be bad til end of time.
4) Yes, THE VOLCANO GOING??? WTF??? it has truly turning into LOST VEGAS (lost its way, and I agree with you and go back to my point #1 over by the RIO made more sense
THIS IS GOING TO DESTROY THE STRIP!!!
The VGK rink didn’t DESTROY THE STRIP the way it was nestled into place, KILLING THE TROP for this mess is BLASHPHEMY for regular Vegas travel lovers!!
WE all “accepted” that some Classics we Loved (I hated to see Dunes (especially) and others go (I was always very fond of STARDUST (and it was sadly clear that FRONTIER was going to disappear sooner than later following the Strike that destroyed it))) would sometime “give way” to something NEWER, BIGGER, BETTER, but this is NOT THAT!
5) was this site scouted by A BLIND MAN incapable of seeing endless open spaces (close enough to Strip to build/run a massive Tram to/from) to otherwise build upon????

Plus some additional asides
I did/do want Vegas to get all the major sports, BUT trying to lump them all within a few square miles of each other STUPID!
I did/do wanted them to get NFL, MLB, and NBA, BUT EXPANSION FRANCHISES (like VGK was/is) and NOT stealing teams and adding to the frustration many of us have with all the Major League Sports (lack of stability and inability to GROW/ADD rather than shuffle Deck Chairs on their Titanic failing Leagues (except NHL that is getting it right, mostly, but now gotta get Teams back in Atlanta and Quebec)).

What’s next, is the Caesars going to make way for Wimbeldon (did I spell that right? don’t bother replying, I don’t care) like Tennis spread?!?!? Heck, maybe VEGAS should get a Summer Olympics bid and just rip everything down to make way for all the needed Venues.

Ok, seriously, gotta say again A 30 THOUSAND SEAT STADIUM?!?!? Really??? Seriously??? How is that supposed to work for a supposed MLB Team (yep, ok, a minor league team, but official part of the MLB)?!?!?! How is that supposed to work. Yes, I know, I’m repeating myself. MONEY BALL, I get it, work a reasonably effective Team on a Budget (But you still have to create a Team that will NOT LOSE EVERY GAME, EVERY YEAR, FOR THE UNFORSEEABLE FUTURE)!!!!
But, hey, a Team that will be worse than the Tigers will be ReBuild (The Illitch Son EPIC FAIL going on now)

OR WAS THAT A TYPO SOMEWHERE?!?!? I feel like I should make some calls to confirm that which I read elsewhere (don’t see mention of Stadium capacity here in this piece) before I hit enter on this comment.
I LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE TO CORRECT ME that actually does have DEFINITIVE CONFIRMATION on the supposed Stadium Build seating?!?!?!

By comparison:
Progressive Field (Cleveland Guardians) – 34,830 capacity.
LoanDepot Park (Miami Marlins) – 37,442 capacity.
Fenway Park (Boston Red Sox) – 37,755 capacity.
What do they have in common RIDICULOUS TICKET PRICES (but, hey, all the Major Sports, regardless of Market and Venue size, HAS PRICED AVERAGE FAMILIES OUT OF ATTENDANCE) guess they’re planning for the usual Corporate seat sales and to Hell with actually Fans wanting to attend with Family/Friends (unless you have a connection to get tickets from one of the Corporate Seat holders). Sports has been changing, having said that, and now a lot to do with MARKET TV CONTRACTS (and Vegas draws lots of Coverage/eyeballs, at least with Teams in new Venues garnering curiousity for now) and REVENUE SHARING – so clearly their bottom-line will work or they would not be doing this.

I’m not happy to hear that the Tropicana is being torn down to make way for a baseball field. I was married at the Tropicana in the outside garden. It holds memories for me. There is plenty of desert else where to put a stupid baseball field!!!

I always stay at the Excal, MGM And NY, NY. What a mess this will be, it is heartbreaking. It is already a mess when the Raiders are there. We come every year for 10 days for the Rodeo, that will be put on the back burner plus the rooms will be so expensive that we will have to stay home or stay downtown. So Sad. Plus with all the money they make it is sad the taxpayers have to pay the bill.

It’s incredible how our government just gives away tax dollars to fund a private “for profit” business and then puts lipstick on the pig in the name of “growth”. Why is there no vote on spending this ludicrous amount of tax money? More so, why would you put a baseball stadium on the corner of Trop and LV blvd?…..can you imagine the nightmare vehicle and foot traffic that will cause pre and post game. you may as well shut that entire intersection down permanently… Seriously, who are making these government and corporate decisions with total disregard for the taxpayer and NV residents….umm F1…ummm Sphere…just beating the hell out of us taxpayers……

In reply to William Wingo. Looking forward to it! The ballpark will generate millions and millions to the economy which will outweigh the public funds over time. There are many transplants here that will flock to the stadium to see their hometown teams as well as tourists. If the A's get their shit together, they could become a viable team because the money is here, not in Oakland.

Ugh, what a waste. Like you Scott, I hate sportsball…and baseball is by far the WORST of all sportsball, so I’m not at all thrilled to think of a Vegas icon being demolished for a shiny new piece of crap on a prime piece of the Strip to showcase it. Even if Bally’s builds a new casino resort near the stadium monstrosity, it won’t be anything cool or unique in any way.
Like another poster said, it’ll just be another blah chain hotel that you would find anywhere, just slightly “glitzed up” because of where it’s built. LAME!

Thanks for explaining this complicated A’s deal and how they have drifted around Vegas and maybe they have finally found a location for their baseball team. I agree that stained glass ceiling is really cool and I also liked the pool are at the Tropicana. Unfortunately the casino are is small and while the restaurants are good there are not many options. Regarding the Wild Wild West location I think Disney will eventually buy that land and build something similar to Disneyland Resort in California there.
