The costs of electricity is the same, half empty or full. You still have to have a variety to staff. If you have one hostess, and cut the seating in half, you don’t hire half a hostess. Maybe you don’t bring back the hostess, and make half the waiters do that job, but the hostess does more than seat people. And the manager still gets his/her salary, even with a reduced staff. You don’t cut the manager’s wages in half.

Economy of scale, oh brilliant one. Your revenue may be at 50%, but the question isn’t how much will a restaurant gross, it’s how much (if any) the restaurant will make at half capacity. DUH!
