I do hope Westgate does well with the property. Given how they did with PH Towers, I’m not holding my breath.

I think the SLS job, on the other hand, involved gutting everything down to the concrete floors and walls. This has allowed them to install new water lines. I was told that more recent water systems feature some kinda “loop’ system on the hot water side that allows a constant recirculating flow of unused water to keep it hotter longer, for a lower cost, and speeds up the delivery of hot water to the room. I think it would allow them to install more, and more modern, electrical capacity, lines and outlets, and it would also allow for the most modern fiber-optic and other communications cabling. I heard they removed and sold the escalators, so I wonder if the elevators are the old ones? Seems like they might use a chiller/boiler HVAC system? Don’t know what it had before and what it has now.
The upshot of this post is that the Plaza job cost about $40 million for a 1,000 room property, and the SLS job cost, what, close to ten times that for a 1,600 room property? If the Westgate Las Vegas renovation budget is announced at $150 million, then I’m guessing it’s getting a Plaza type clean up, and we will still have to wait 2 minutes for hot water, get iffy TV picture quality, and be kinda warm in our west facing rooms during the summertime.

It looked pretty run down but Elara looks very nice so will be willing to give it a whirl but it is a nice lil walk from the strip even though we went a car each time we go.

There is none more perfect IMO. Drive in from Paradise, stop at valet and walk in, and you know that THIS is the timeless “Grand” hotel lobby. All public spaces are perfectly sized, accessible and laid out. The rooms go all the way from efficiently functional to fabulously lavish suites.

But….

It Is 45 years old, the same age (give or take) as the Plaza and some parts of the SLS/Sahara. Those recent make overs provide us a contrast of the levels of work involved in “renovations”. I think the Plaza was a redo of everything a person could see or touch, with little done to the AC, plumbing or electrical systems. This is why the big blower tube is in the elevator lobby on the ground floor forcing air out of the area. I think there is an issue with either sewage venting or bus exhaust that collects there otherwise. Properties of this era spend 40% more for utilities and still have a less effective hot water and AC system, especially during peak loads.

End of part one.
